OUR VIEW: File a lawsuit and fix Fairhaven
That the family of a former Fairhaven High School student who was subjected to a twisted form of hazing and then essentially forced to flee his tormentors and enroll in private school should demand compensation from the town is not surprising. We urge the Marujo family to file suit to get this long-shrouded and disgraceful incident out in the open. If the town and its insurance company simply agree to pay the $1 million the Marujos are seeking, the events that harmed Matthew Marujo and the culture that sanctioned those events will never really be known. .
UPDATE 1-Motorola eyes mobile chief with consumer know-how
Facing a plummeting share and pressure from activist investor Carl Icahn, Motorola said at the end of January it was looking at options such as a potential separation of mobile devices to help create value for shareholders. Brown said he was taking nothing for granted when asked about how Motorola will cope with moves by rivals such as global leader Nokia to make inroads into the North American market where Motorola is the leader. "I expect (competition) to be particularly rugged for the remainder of 2008 and into 2009," he said during the Webcast. Continued... .

OAK BROOK, Ill. February 18, 2008 A study from the Jichi Medical University in Japan shows that optimal band imaging used with an endoscope provided images that clearly identified depressed-type early gastric cancer without magnification in 96 percent of study participants. The study appears in the February issue of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the monthly peer-reviewed scientific journal of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Gastric cancer is one of the most prevalent types of cancer in the world. If gastric cancer is found early, the five-year survival rate increases nearly 90 percent. In contrast, most patients with advanced gastric cancer have a poor prognosis. Gastric cancer is classified as elevated, flat and depressed types. Despite improvements in endoscopic technologies, depressed-type early gastric cancer is challenging to diagnose because it manifests as subtle changes in color and shape.

His words gave me pause, for on so many Christmas Eves past, I had driven to the bakery on Columbia Avenue for a dozen or so fresh, hot, hard rolls sprinkled with numerous little black seeds - they were always sold out. This year with Eric J. Greene's words in mind I hoped, and then I hoped some more. I hoped until I fell asleep. And so it was that I woke up that cold Monday morning, hoping that this was my year; that it was going to happen. It did.
