A Shockey development?
Super Bowl champions generally wouldn't think twice about welcoming back a star tight end who missed the team's dramatic run to the title because of a season-ending injury (fractured fibula). If a team without Shockey could win it all, a club with him would seemingly increase its chances. Yet Shockey's return figures to be one of the most important questions facing the Giants. Some, such as former backup quarterback Tim Hasselbeck, believe the Giants' late-season success was due in part to Shockey being eliminated from the mix, thus allowing quarterback Eli Manning to thrive. General manager Jerry Reese insisted otherwise in the days leading up to the Super Bowl, saying the Giants would have enjoyed the same dramatic rise with Shockey. He called it a coincidence that the team's surge came after Shockey got hurt.
Prolonged Wii Sports play can cause injuries
Sweat popped out on the reddened faces of 12-year-old Jakob Njos and 15-year-old Emily Njos, evidence that they had raised their heart rate while holding remote controls and punching the air as they stood in front of a television set.The siblings had just finished a round of virtual boxing, one of several Nintendo Wii Sports games they got for Christmas. Onscreen, customized Mii cartoon figures representing each of them "fought" until there was a knockout. Sweat flew from the faces of the virtual characters, too."They don't take any rests when they play these sports, so it's an endurance thing," said their mother, Siri Njos. She is a physical therapist and knows that making video games physically engaging has its pluses. But she cautions it may have its minuses, too, if players don't use proper form and common sense. From friends and family, she has gotten reports about pain and soreness among both adults and children who play Wii Sports."Adults get hit the hardest, but even kids are complaining of pain," she said.Wii Sports includes bowling, baseball, boxing, tennis and golf.Imagine punching the air as if boxing or sweeping the air as if hitting a tennis ball hundreds and hundreds of times."You may hit a thousand tennis balls in a given period of time, something you'd never do on the tennis court," said Dr.

Marinelli: Lions won't waive Rogers
This is the best year he's had, he practiced all year and didn't miss any games." Rogers had a career-high seven sacks this season and was a dominant force as the Lions rolled to a 6-2 record at the halfway point. Beginning with the 31-21 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, though, Rogers' production plummeted. In Detroit's six-game losing streak, Rogers had just 17 tackles (only eight solo tackles), no sacks, no forced fumbles and no fumble recoveries. While Rogers didn't participate in training camp because of knee problems, he missed almost no practice time and he played in all 16 games for the first time since 2004. Whether Rogers stays or goes, Marinelli continues to maintain that character and a passion for playing football is at the top of his agenda in formulating a roster.
