Obama Rolls On In the Texas debate, Clinton doesn't slow the front ...

She didn't really even take a shot.

Clinton was occasionally aggressive, but not enough to shake up the dynamic that has her nearly tied in polls in the crucial March 4 primary states of Ohio and Texas. Clinton's game plan was to connect with voters, not to tear down Barack Obama. She took pains to show that she understood the concerns of regular folks and that she had plans to address them. She did this well at times, particularly in her final answer of the debate, but Obama turned in one of his strongest performances so far of this campaign. In an even match, the tie goes to the front-runner.

For weeks, Clinton campaign aides have been saying that when voters got a chance to see the two Democratic candidates side by side, it would stop Obama's momentum. Voters would see that Clinton is the more competent and durable candidate.

Flashback: How could you possibly call the Pistons 'Bad' Boys?

Next thing you know, we'll have to wear eyepatches to the Silverdome and carry knives between our teeth.

Now, I have spent a lot of time in the Pistons' locker room. And I never have had to carry a weapon. A footstool, maybe. Never a weapon. They seem like OK guys to me.

But, hey. Maybe I'm missing something. So I called Bob Neal, the TBS announcer, who said that yes, he has been calling Detroit "the team people love to hate" on national broadcasts since late last season.

"It's the image they have around the country now," he said. "I think people relate to Detroit as a tough, blue-collar, hardball town -- and now Detroit basketball fits the mold literally.

"You got players like Bill Laimbeer and Rick Mahorn. When Laimbeer comes to town, there are signs saying "LAME-beer." In Atlanta, a guy dresses up in a villain's mustache and wears Laimbeer's number, and when he stands up, everyone boos.

Our findings come amid a growing clamour from English politicians and the London-based media to curb Scotland's £26bn spending grant from the Treasury.

But, as The Herald shows, much of this mischief is based not on facts but a series of myths, mistakes and misconceptions.

Violent porn flick prompts apology

Sex Week at Yale ran into more controversy Saturday night when porn director Paul Thomas, on campus to participate in the event, screened a graphic porn film that featured violent sado-masochism.

Coordinators said they were appalled by the film — which they had not watched before it was aired in front of an audience of over 200 students — but members of the gender-balanced crowd did not appear upset by the movie and reacted with disappointment when the Sex Week team ended the film early.

On Sunday night, Sex Week coordinators emphasized that they do not support the practices displayed in the film, which depicted fantasy rape, bondage and piercing. Colin Adamo '10, Sex Week event coordinator, called the screening a grave mistake.

“We really dropped the ball on this one," he said.

Wal-Mart site offers workers' blunt opinions about products

Microsoft is one of Wal-Mart's biggest suppliers. But that did not stop the Wal-Mart employee in charge of buying computers from panning Microsoft's newest operating system, Vista.

"Is it really all that and a bag of chips?" he wrote on his blog. "My life has not changed dramatically - well, for that matter, it hasn't changed at all."

Known for its strict, by-the-books culture - accepting a cup of coffee from a supplier can be a firing offense - Wal-Mart is now encouraging its merchants to speak frankly, even critically, about the products the chain carries.

The new website, which was created during the holiday shopping season, has become a forum for unvarnished rants about gadgets, raves about new video games, and advice on selecting environmentally sustainable food.

Four hurt in French Valley plane crash

My mechanic friend noticed and then made a major communication effort to try to contact as many pilots and owners as possible to urge them to change to synthetic oil which didn't break down like regular oil at the higher heat ranges that occurred due to the slower air speed conditions and the crashes pretty much quit happening altogether. Incidentally, I've seen statistics that say horses are the No. 1 most dangerous mode of transportation and air travel is the safest when factoring in miles traveled. Highway travel was the next most dangerous after horses. It's a fact, however, that sooner or later we don't get out of this life alive, so I'd rather get out and go than sit around and wait. Have a nice day!

Update: 'Mind-blowing' ruling against towns around Candlewood Lake

The state Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that the five towns bordering Candlewood Lake lack the power to enforce zoning or building regulations in the narrow band of land that circles the lake.

"Wow!" Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton said after learning of the decision. "We absolutely see the issue differently."

"It's mind-blowing," said Sherman First Selectman Andrea O'Connor.

While lawyers for the towns must now parse the Supreme Court's unanimous decision to try to understand exactly what limits it imposes on them, many officials worried Tuesday the ruling will allow people to simply bypass zoning and building code laws for any construction on the shores of the lake.

"It will be the wild, wild West," said New Fairfield First Selectman John Hodge.

Because the crux of the case involves town power vs.
