Madonna Headlines List of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees

The ever-evolving Madonna was announced as a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee on Thursday along with John Mellencamp, The Ventures, Leonard Cohen and The Dave Clark Five.

A panel of 600 industry figures selected the five acts to be inducted at the annual ceremony, to be held March 10 in New York.

"The 2008 inductees are trailblazers -- all unique and influential in their genres," Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation President and CEO Joel Peresman said in a statement. "From poetry to pop, these five acts demonstrate the rich diversity of rock and roll itself."

To be eligible, artists must have issued a first single or album at least 25 years before nomination.

Madonna Louise Ciccone signed with Sire Records in 1982 and became one of MTV's first stars two years later with "Like A Virgin." She has constantly altered her image and appearance ever since, showing staying power that few '80s stars could muster.

Boxer accepts Big challenge for WrestleMania

The Big Show-sized gauntlet has been thrown down, and six-time boxing champ Floyd Money Mayweather has accepted his challenge from the Big Show for WrestleMania 24 on Sunday, March 30 from the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla.

The 7-0 Big Show goaded the 5-8 Mayweather into accepting a future one-on-one match one night after their controversial melee at WWE's pay-per-view No Way Out on Sunday, Feb. 17 from Las Vegas.

Mayweather peppered the monolithic former WWE and ECW champ with punches after he made a surprise return and began roughing up Mayweather's injured friend Rey Mysterio.

Initially, Big Show seemed cordial to the boxing champion on Raw on Monday, Feb. 18 apologizing publicly to the Honda Center crowd and fans worldwide for his actions Sunday night.

Roses ‘n’ Razzies

ROSE (roz) n. One of the most beautiful of all flowers, a symbol of fragrance and loveliness. Often given as a sign of appreciation.RASPBERRY (raz'ber'e) n. A sharp, scornful comment, criticism or rebuke; a derisive, splatting noise, often called the Bronx cheer. We hereby deliver: ROSES to volunteers who helped our neighbors in the North Santiam Canyon cope with the snowiest winter in more than 50 years. Although our local 2.25 inches of snowfall for January seemed like a lot to us, it was nothing compared to the more than 100 inches that fell in the past few weeks in Idanha and Marion Forks. It hasn't snowed that much in the mountains since the early 1950s. There to help the residents keep warm, fed and safe and dig out were scores of volunteers. The Oregon National Guard's 1249th Engineer Battalion and the 142nd Civil Engineering Squadron sent, according to their own press release, "nearly three dozen citizen-soldiers and airmen with heavy equipment to the cities in eastern Marion County along U.S.

US General Seeks to Create Iraqi Jobs

The fish farms are just part of what Lynch and his soldiers call ``sustainable security.'' Once fighting in an area has been suppressed and Iraqi military and police take over, the U.S. troops look for ways to make it last.

``It's about how do we give these people a means to a job, so they are less likely to resort to the old ways of planting IED's,'' Lynch said, referring to roadside bombs. As he flew over the region in a helicopter recently, numerous large fish ponds could be seen glinting in the sunlight.

The military has given out more than 200 micro-grants worth about $750,000 to small startup businesses in the region. They have also pumped about $140 million into the local economy, assisting existing industries and rebuilding infrastructure.

As Lynch travels the region, the need for new jobs is easily seen.

Japan may move to support crashing dollar

Japan's industrial output fell 2pc in January on slowing exports to the US, Europe, and lately the rest of Asia.

While China has held up well so far, there is mounting evidence that tighter credit rules are starting to bite.

The Xinhua Finance index of business confidence fell from 67.7 to 60.3 in February and production index tumbled from 61.1 to 51.3. "Over coming months, we expect this deteriorating outlook to becoming increasingly evident in industrial production," said Barclays Capital.

China's yuan has risen 2.6pc against the dollar this year alone as Beijing attempts to head off an inflationary crisis. Prices rose 7.1pc in January, with clear signs of knock-on effects into pay demands. The minimum wage in Guangdong is to rise 18pc in April. The triple effects of tight credit, inflation, and a rising yuan are squeezing export margins, tipping hundreds of companies into the red.

Denzler: Caught off guard by a proud moment

It has been my finding that no matter how trying some parental decisions and moments may be, witnessing a smile on a child's face on Christmas morning, being given a hug, a firm handshake by a young adult as they leave for college or simply being told goodnight before another day comes to an end are great rewards.

With that in mind I wish to pass along a quote from Ecclesiastes: "Generations come and go but it makes no difference. The sun rises and sets and hurries around to rise again. The wind blows south and north, here and there. Twisting back and forth, getting nowhere. The rivers run into the sea but the sea is never full, and the water returns again to the rivers and flows again to the seas ... Everything is unutterably weary and tiresome. No matter how much we see, we are never satisfied; no matter how much we hear, we are not content, so I saw that there is nothing better for men than that they should be happy in their work.

Morning Report: Dogs, ’roids, cheaters and guns

After that the news goes rapidly downhill.

Accusations of steroid use by Roger Clemens were ramped up on the eve of his testimony on Capitol Hill.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell agreed to meet today with Sen. Arlen Specter to discuss the New England Patriots' track record of cheating.

And depositions in a promoter's suit against NFL running back Reggie Bush ended when a lawyer's bodyguard flashed a gun.

Uno for president! Barking and baying, a beagle named Uno became the first of his breed to win best in show at the Westminster Kennel Club.

The nation's new top dog was clearly the fan favorite, and drew a standing ovation from the sold-out crowd at Madison Square Garden.

Uno already had earned another title: noisiest in show.

MT. BALDY - A local man missing since Wednesday in the mountains above Claremont has been found dead.

Robert Bruner, 46, of Chino was found by two local hikers around 2 p.m. Sunday, according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff's news release.

The two hikers went to the sheriff's command post in the area and informed authorities they found a dead man while hiking west of Falling Rock Canyon. That area has an elevation of 6,000 feet, according to the news release.

Search teams responded and later notified the coroner's office. Coroner's officials confirmed the body as belonging to Bruner around 5 p.m.
