Assisteens of Redlands hosted the annual Medallion Ball dinner, presentation and dance Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Redlands Country Club. The program included a social time for candid photography and formal portraits, dinner, presentation of seniors and dancing to the music of Audio Concepts. Assistance League of Redlands is the parent organization for the Assisteens auxiliary. Following dinner, senior Assisteens and their escorts were introduced by Chuck Hornsby. A father-daughter waltz to Brahms' "Waltz in A Flat," Op. 39, No. 15, followed introductions. There are 28 young women in the Assisteens class of 2008, most of whom were able to participate in the evening's celebration of their accomplishments.
Bodette column: Week's events have big impact
Good morning, St. Cloud area. What a week for state and local news. I can't resist the opportunity to add my comments to this week's major stories out of St. Paul and St. Cloud. Remember, the executive editor is a member of the Times Editorial Board. It has been a week of lively Editorial Board discussions. Lawmakers' decisions this week could have a profound impact on the lives of area residents. It's time to pay close attention to the news and get involved by talking or writing to your elected officials. Here we go: News item No. 1: Legislature overrides transportation bill veto. The Editorial Board has been encouraging lawmakers to work in a bipartisan manner to achieve the best solutions to the state's problems.
Windows Vista (In)capable
The news seems to keep getting worse, not better. The fish rots from the head, Steve. And you're the head. Time to go and give someone else a shot. The world's largest and most profitable software company can and must do better. Comments welcome, of course. Update: There's a bug in the new ZDnet stylesheet, so I've gone back and put the direct quotes in italics. Hope it makes the direct quotes clear. posted by Robin Harris March 2, 2008 @ 7:59 pm Previous Post: Comcast's "seat-warming" execs can't be trusted Last 10 posts: Windows Vista (In)capable (03-02) Comcast's "seat-warming" execs can't be trusted (02-28) A 16 GB DIMM (02-26) Apple's cookie monster: Safari CRS (02-20) HD DVD post-mortem: why did Toshiba fail? FSA and bankers' bonuses
Then the check and balance of the credit department wanted a slice and that was where the problem really started. Either you rewarded your credit people competitively and paid them bonuses or you got dullards. In either event you did not reinforce the fundamental requirement of a credit officer that a bank's greatest asset is its long-term stability. As you sow so shall you reap. .
Not on my TV
Pay the money for...get in your car....Dexter...well...you just have to walk over to the television and turn it on. Maybe your kids will see it on a sleepover at someone else's house. It won't make them psychotic but it will pollute their mind somewhat...a steady diet of it could make someone twist off. I am not going to watch it, and I have that right. It is not "Bible thumping". It is my choice. The ones in here that express that they are going to watch should not think they have a monopoly on opinion or cause. .
Britney Spears
Sam Lutfi was finally served the restraining order yesterday that effectively requires him to stay 250 feet from Britney Spears and have no contact with her whatsoever. The restraining order was set to expire today, but the judge in the case extended it to March 17, according to the AP: In court papers, Jeffrey Wexler, an attorney for her father, James Spears, wrote that "after three weeks of apparently evading service," Lutfi was served at 11 a.m. outside his Los Angeles apartment. The order, which requires Lutfi to stay 250 yards away from Spears and her home, was set to expire Friday. Wexler had asked for the order to be extended. Poor Sam Lutfi. He must miss Britney Spears. I bet he walks in on random pap smears just to remember the good times. Surprisingly none of the women really cared until Sam started throwing Cheetos at them and screaming "Where's the checkbook?! I'll feed you to Satan!" Then it got a little weird.
The week the Obama backlash started (Yessey was right)
It will also lead to a willingness to pounce on any perceived mistakes from the Obama camp. Thus last week Obama's wife, Michelle, faced criticism after she appeared less than patriotic at a campaign rally in Wisconsin. 'For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country,' she said. The remark was seized on as anti-American by many commentators, forcing the campaign to stare down a rare surge of criticism and clarify the remarks. The incident served to show how the media landscape is changing for Obama. At another rally, in Dallas, Obama paused to blow his nose and received a round of cheers. That prompted withering headlines, too. 'Even blowing his nose, Obama gets applause,' snickered the Chicago Tribune, a newspaper from Obama's adopted hometown. All over America, reporting teams are now investigating Obama's record, matching the long-term efforts of Clinton 'opposition research' workers.
