| Boxer Floyd Mayweather Busts Big Show's Nose In WWE No Way Out
WBC Welterweight Champion "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather Jr. participated in an in-ring situation at the WWE NO WAY OUT pay per view in Las Vegas last night, and broke returning giant Big Show's nose in what is will be the most replayed piece of videotape going in to WWE's biggest pay per view of the year -- Wrestlemania XXIV on Sunday, March 30 from The Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida. Recent news has Mayweather in a video clip tossing cash at a WWE press conference, taunting them with chants of "I'm the Money Man." According to www.wrestlingnewsdesk.com, Big Show, real name Paul Wight, has been ironically training to be a boxer since leaving World Wrestling Entertainment in December 2006. The 7-foot tall giant from Aiken, South Carolina was going to be part of a Miami-based promotion owned in part by Hulk Hogan.
Antioch to Close Main College
The connection between Acdemia and real-world practise were the thing. "Social Justice" as a pursuit became the thing as the times demanded it. Antioch, as an open institution that is/was very responsive to what is going on in the outside world, happened to be a very conducive institution to respond to these demands. But to claim it as a be all, end all of the College is, for me short-sighted. I, for one (almost literally it feels like), come at the College from the perspective of an artist (albeit a minor one that wil die obscure...hey, just like Mozart!). While I was there in the 70’s, under the aegis of two well-known avant-guard filmmakers, the film department was the place to be. But of course because of that "avant-garde" thing, no one except those of us who majored in film and a few other wise art majors really knew it.
Harvard-Westlake's Hamlin commits to Colgate
Jakarri Hamlin, a Harvard-Westlake of Studio City defensive lineman, has committed to play football at Colgate. Hamlin, a 6-foot-3, 250-pounder, also plays on the basketball team. "Jakarri really liked his visit to Colgate," Harvard-Westlake coach Vic Eumont said. "He was going to visit Lehigh, too. They were interested, but he liked Colgate so much that he canceled." A couple of other Harvard-Westlake football players are receiving recruiting interest. Defensive lineman Ross Gruber could be headed to Johns Hopkins, and defensive back Andy Firestone is considering Div. III Williams College in Massachusetts. Also, Firestone's brother, Nicky, is expected to make a splash as a varsity sophomore this coming season as a multi-purpose back and return specialist. "Nicky is quick.
Natchez pharmacy burglarized
NATCHEZ — When two men broke into Bill Ernst's pharmacy, they appeared to have only two things on their minds — get drugs, and get out. “They just busted out the glass and walked through the door," Ernst said. Ernst Pharmacy was burglarized just before 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. Adams County Sheriff's Deputy Maj. Jody Waldrop said the two men used what looked like a pipe to break out the glass on the door. Waldrop knows how the two men gained entry to the pharmacy because Ernst's son had the entire place wired with security cameras. The alarm, also installed by Ernst's son, notified the sheriff's office of the break-in and deputies were able to respond within approximately four minutes, Waldrop said. And while deputies were able to respond quickly, they were not quick enough.
UFC 71 preview and guest predictions
UFC returns to Las Vegas Saturday with UFC 71 after taking its show on the road with recent stops in Manchester, England, Houston and Columbus, Ohio. The event features one of the most widely anticipated fights in recent UFC history -- the main event between light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell and Quinton Jackson. The matchup pits a beloved and popular champion in Liddell -- who was featured on the May 21 cover of ESPN The Magazine and recently made a cameo appearance on the HBO show Entourage -- against the only fighter he has fought and never beaten. Liddell's last loss came against Jackson in November 2003 in a Pride Middleweight Grand Prix semifinal match. Since that fight, Liddell has won seven straight bouts. Jackson enters the match on a four-fight win streak, including a second-round technical knockout over Marvin Eastman in his last bout and UFC debut at UFC 67.
Even Johnson won’t turn Lions into contenders
Training camp should help sort out the problem of playing with only one football. The glut of receivers also makes fans wonder why they needed to trade for Denver running back Tatum Bell and add big T.J. Duckett. The Lions did finish last in rushing, but partly because they finished last in rushing attempts. They don't expect former No. 1 pick Kevin Jones to be healthy. Tinkering with the offensive line is an annual affair and the addition of guard Edwin Mulitalo from Baltimore and George Foster from Denver are the latest maneuverings. Marinelli loves Rogers because defensive tackle is the most important position in the "Tampa-2" system. But Cory Redding already has surpassed his former Texas teammate in productivity and reliability at the position, not to mention cost, so Rogers may be out.
FROM GRIND TO GRACE: Ex-Wing Darren McCarty tries to find himself and ...
"I was in Detroit this summer during the boat races, the hydroplanes in July. And I called Cheryl, and we were talking. It was sort of like the first time I had been in town awhile. I was so miserable and down. I was so disgusted and embarrassed. I couldn't even see my kids. She said to me, 'Don't you think that if you do something, put forth the effort to come out of this, that everybody that loves you won't come back?' "Hearing that coming from her ... I wanted to be accountable. I wanted to be a positive influence in my kids' life now and let them know that their dad loves them and he's there and it's not just talk -- it's action. "So I went home and made a call that I needed to make. I called a friend to go take care of what I needed to take care of: to go away for a while." -- Darren McCarty, Jan.
